I have an MA in English from Oxford University and a PhD in English from Emory University, with a specialty in eighteenth-century British literature. I've taught at Oglethorpe University, Coastal Carolina University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Wake Forest University, and Iowa State University.

Since I left teaching and crossed over to the Dark Side of administration, I've been doing less academic work and more freelance music reviewing/arts commentary, especially for the non-profit Arts Fuse website. I recommend you check out the excellent independent arts criticism being done at the Arts Fuse, and if you can help them out with a donation, bless your heart.

If you're interested in hiring me for liner notes, articles, reviews, or assorted arts-related writing projects, I'd be interested in hearing from you.

I'm the proud administrator of two thriving online groups: the Mastodon instance for jazz people, Jazztodon.com, and the Miles Davis Discussion Group on Facebook. Come join the conversation! (All I do on The Social Network Formerly Known As Twitter is try to persuade people to come to Mastodon.)

I also have close to a thousand records for sale, most of them 45s of all genres, on Discogs.

If you want to nose around more in my business, my Facebook profile is here, and my LinkedIn profile is here. Let's be digital buddy-buddies. (If you're in Austin, we can go analog.)
